Dear Friends of Herbs:

Here in the northeast of the U.S. the countryside has become a giant gorgeous garden of golden, orange, red and green. The crystalline air with bright skies and invigorating temperatures are a special delight to the body and soul, tinged with a touch of nostalgia for many of us, as we know how short lived this season is. It’s a great season to detox!

Fall Detox Season

Alternative medicine, as many of you know, is based on two concepts which have little if any meaning to the allopathic medicine paradigm: detoxification of the body's organs and systems so that they can function well and supernutrition, since the high level of environmental toxins that most of us are forced to endure -- at least some of the time -- coupled with the high stress levels in most people's lives creates extra high nutritional demands on our bodies that are best met through both organic food and the use of herbal supplements.
.
Fall is a great season to begin a colon and liver detox before the weather gets really cold and we need to focus on nourishment.

Royal Cat's Claw Tea and Royal Break-Stone Tea are on "Special" for the Fall, to encourage you to do your Fall colon, liver, gall bladder and kidney detox. These same teas are pleasing to the palate served hot - well, some may take exception to describing Cat's Claw Tea in this way, but truly speaking, Cat's Claw Tea is more pleasant served either hot or cold, rather than at room temperature. Many of you have given up all caffeinated beverages, but if you have a daily caffeinated tea, you can pour your boiling hot Cat's Claw Tea (you can reheat this without damaging it) over an Earl Grey tea bag to make a very palatable cup of tea served plain. Alternatively, of course, you can use the Royal Cat’s Claw Liquid Extract, which is very effective, tastes better, and saves time.

Detoxing step by step

It's important to start with getting rid of toxins that you are holding in your intestinal tract before cleaning your liver. If the toxins removed by the liver are just left to sit in the intestines for any length of time is that they may get reabsorbed through the intestinal walls back into the body. So instead of detoxifying your body you are retoxifying it!

Why take Royal Cat's Claw Tea or Liquid Extract? It’s true that you could take a bulking agent to get things moving in your colon again, but you'd be missing the other incredible properties of Uncaria tomentosa, which Nicole Maxwell, author of Witch Doctor's Apprentice, called "the most important medicinal plant in the South American rain forest."(See Cat's Claw in Herbal Library.) So you can strengthen your immune system-- Cat's Claw increases T cell count and macrophage activity, has anti-inflammatory properties, drastically lowers the C-reactive protein level in your blood (a high level is strongly associated with a future heart attack) all at the same time that you are detoxing your colon! The capsules that you find in the health food stores are not effective because the phytoactives in the Cat's Claw bark are released by either boiling water (making a tea) or even more complex an alcoholic/water extraction process.

Having a "clean" intestinal tract (seems like a contradiction in terms!) means having soft, even somewhat loose and plentiful bowel movements. In a successful detox, you will be having bowel movements totaling 12 to 24 inches in length at a time, especially the first day. It means creating an intestinal environment which facilitates the prompt removal of toxic substances in the gut. If you don't remove these toxins, you will tend to get depressed since outside of the brain the largest number of serotonin receptors are in the intestinal tract! These receptors cannot work properly if your colon is impacted and your bowel movements are small and hard. (Sorry to be so graphic!!!)

Royal Break-Stone™ Tea at your Thanksgiving Meal!

Many of you may not be aware that the Royal Break-Stone Tea is a delicious Tummy-Feel-Good Digestive Tea as well as a fabulous liver detoxifier -- and much more pleasant than the olive oil-lemon juice liver flush! (See Break-Stone in Herbal Library) In recent years, I have always served a Royal Break-Stone Tea course, after the main meal and before the desert course. I serve it hot with a lemon wedge and we enjoy good conversation for 30 minutes while we sip it -- and the crowd just loves it! This tea takes away that awful "ate-too-much" syndrome, helping the gall Bladder and liver recover and creates enthusiasm for dessert! The gall bladder works better and the liver recovers.

Testimonials on the use of Camu Camu for Nerve Pain

Although many of you swear by Camu Camu for keeping your immune system strong, fighting off herpes infections with amazing effectiveness, and keeping your mood swings on an "even keel," many of you are unaware that there is another major use for Royal Camu.

For years I've used extra Royal Camu whenever I had a tooth ache and have been amazed at how fast the pain disappeared. It was Dr. James Duke's amazing ethnobotanical website which clued me in that Camu-Camu might be helpful. Recently, I've received two amazing testimonials that you might be interested in hearing. One is from a Russian doctor of alternative medicine who is now living in the U.S. Soon after meeting her, she shared with me that in 1992 she had had influenza which lasted for four weeks. When she recovered she was left with a severe facial neuralgia, particularly agonizing during cold weather (which lasts at least six months out of 12 in Russia). She had tried everything in Russia—aloe vera injections, B1, B6 and B12 vitamins, acupuncture, etc. These treatments had helped a little but not much. I suggested she try the Royal Camu. She took three capsules at 8:30 p.m. one evening recently and by 11:30 p.m. she already felt the pain to be somewhat less. When she woke up in the morning, she took three more capsules. By 11:30 a.m. her facial pain was completely gone, and she called me to share her "fantastic news," We both think that her facial nerve pain is probably due to the flu virus which never completely went away but hid in the nerves and gets activated by the stress of the cold weather. Now she uses the Royal Camu twice a day as a maintenance dose and stay out of pain during the cold weather.

Recently I discovered that a friend of mine was suffering from "tennis elbow" brought on by repetitive stress on her job, where she was doing seasonal overtime and working six long days a week. Her nerve pain ran from her elbow down her arm into her wrist. The day I visited her she had stayed home from work because she couldn't handle the excruciating pain. I offered her the Royal Camu powder and suggested that she use ¼ - 1/3 tsp. every two hours about eight times that day. Within less than two days, her pain was gone! In fact, she was able to go back to work the very next day. She continues to use the Royal Camu several times a day (three or four times) while her hand and arm are still under the ongoing extra stress.

Viana's News: Peru

Whole World Botanicals’ Native American Connection
This month this section should really be called "Elena’s News." Elena Rojas Martinez, the other co-founder of Whole World Botanicals, (See "About the Founders" on Whole World Botanicals website) is featured in the November, 2003 issue of the beautiful magazine, New Mexico Woman. This month the magazine focuses on Native American women, particularly appropriate because the National Congress of American Indians is holding its annual convention in Albuquerque (Nov. 16-21). Elena, whose mother was of native Andean ancestry and whose first language was Quechua, this year was interviewed for an article entitled: "Maca Getting to the Root of It"

REPORT FROM PERU
In the beginning of September, the other co-founder of Whole World Botanicals, Elena Rojas Martinez, went to Peru to visit the maca growers in the communities with whom we partner. The solar dryer which had been half completed six months ago is now finished and the whole community is very proud of it. (see photo) We are proceeding on our commitment to help the other communities build their own solar dryers. Elena revisited the community where Whole World Botanicals donated a half ton of dry maca roots to be used in the oatmeal of undernourished children in their communal dining room. A year ago when Elena visited, the dining room being used was very small and a new much larger facility was under construction. But in September of this year, it still stood empty. The community had run out of funds, and the windows and the doors still needed to be finished.

(see photo 1.)Whole World Botanicals decided to donate the funds needed to complete this communal eating facility and last week we received the news that the communal dining room is now finished! Meanwhile, more than 100 children show up for breakfast every morning and they mostly eat outside. Click here to see some of Elena’s delightful photos of these children arriving for breakfast and eating their breakfast outside, as well. (photos)

All of you loyal customers of Whole World Botanicals should be very proud of yourselves for "putting your money where your mouth is" to support a company that practices Fair Trade and gives back to the people who grow our wonderful premium quality herbs. It is YOU our highly evolved, spiritually conscious customers who help to make a real difference in the world. We say, Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you again.

Visitors to the unfinished communal dining room include workers from an NGO (nongovernmental organization) who help this village, and third from left, co-founder of Whole World Botanicals, Elena Rojas-Martinez (see About the Founders).

Mothers are allowed to eat at the communal dining facility, along with their children. Among the food served is: maca roots boiled with apples, black corn meal pudding, boiled potatoes with fresh sheep cheese.

HEALTH ACTION EMERGENCY ALERT

In September, 2002 issue of the Whole World of Herbs Newsletter about the worldwide threat to the free sale of therapeutic herbs which was launched by the World Health Organization which supports the "harmonization"of "traditional medicine"[therapeutic herbs] by insisting that they be tested for safety and efficacy and licensed as pharmaceutical drugs. Of course, meanwhile, they favor removing from the market all those herbs that have not been put through these extremely costly clinical trials. Once you know that the major financial support of WHO is no longer the member nations of the United Nations but since 1998 has been the pharmaceutical companies, these politics being promoted by the WHO are no longer a surprise.

But now, there is an immediate threat to your freedom of health choice posed by a Senate bill S.722 co-sponsored by U.S. Senators Richard Durbin of Illinois, Diane Feinstein from California and from New York, Senators Charles Shumer and Senator Hillary Clinton. I feel quite sure that these folks are not herb lovers and do not depend on these marvelous gifts of nature to maintain or improve their own health. Below is an explanation of what this bill contains and the threat it poses to health freedom inside the U.S. There is an alternate bill S.722 which offers positive proposals for improving consumer information and protection through providing the funds for the FDA to enforce the provisions of the DSHEA Act of 1992.

WILL YOU PLEASE BECOME A HEALTH ACTIVIST FOR TEN MINUTES AND MAKE TWO PHONE CALLS TO YOUR U.S. SENATORS? Please Urge Them to Vote "NO" ON S.722. Click here to read more details about this bill and its long term consequences if it passes.

Just type in the name of your Senator in the Google search engine to find out the telephone numbers of your Senators. ONLY A MASSIVE OUTPOURING OF PHONE CALLS, what Senator Barbara Boxer of California in another context called "A HUE AND A CRY FROM THE AMERICAN PEOPLE" can stop this bill. The pharmaceutical company interests are very very strong in the U.S. government right now. But the will of the people is stronger--if you ACT!

Wishing you peace and good health con todo mi corazon,

-- Viana
