Q: Is it really true that the only good Cat’s Claw (Uña de Gato in Spanish), botanical name Uncaria tomentosa, is one in which the TOA’s (tetra-oxindol alkaloids) have been removed and only the POA’s (pentacyclic alkaloids) remain in the extract?

One company is claiming that this is true and of course this company is the only source of this patented product.

A: When the company you mention made this claim, we consulted the plant pharmacologists with whom we work in Peru to give their opinion on this research.  They were aware of this company’s claim but had not seen any independent research that confirms these findings and therefore consider it unreliable.  These scientists also pointed out that the extensive research with the many impressive findings for the therapeutic value of Cat’s Claw were all carried out with the Cat’s Claw as it comes from nature—not with a patented product!
