Cat’s Claw (Uncaria tomentosa) is a highly researched botanical. In the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, February, 2000, author Y. Sheng and his research
team published the results of their studies on the immune system of rats and human males in which they were given a water-soluble extract of Cat’s Claw (in other words, a strong tea), some for 4 weeks, some for 6 weeks.
Their findings were as follows:
- Lymphocyte proliferation was significantly increased in the spleenocytes of rats.
- In a 4 week study of white blood cells in Cat’s Claw treated rats and in another 6 week study with human males, white blood cells were significantly elevated compared with controls.
- Repair of DNA single strand breaks and double strand breaks after whole body irradiation of rats were also significantly improved in Cat’s Claw extract treated animals.
No acute or chronic toxicity was reported in any of these studies.
