Q: I notice that on the directions of the Royal Maca Plus with DIM it says that after several months of use, to use just 6 days a week instead of 7. What is the reason for this?

Royal Maca All

A: Thank you for your question.  Whole World Botanicals feels that it is almost always good to take small breaks from daily use of supplements, especially if they contain an ingredient which is not a whole food. Plants as they come from nature and human beings have co-evolved and therefore eating plants is the ideal way to get your nutrients.

Maca root would be one such example instead of any form of estrogen, progesterone or other hormone which the body produces. Even with foods, many nutritionists agree that it is desirable to vary what you eat and not eat the same food every day.  DIM is a patented ingredient and is a breakdown product from indole-3-carbinol which is one of the constituents of all cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, cabbage, watercress, cauliflower, among others.  It is much more stable as an ingredient than indole-3-carbinol, which is only suitable to take from 12 months of manufacture.  We recommend taking your Royal Maca Plus with DIM with meals, since DIM is not in itself a whole food.  DIM needs a little fat – which almost all meals have—in order to digest well.  Although ideally, everyone would get what DIM provides by eating a cup of raw or very lightly steamed (still crunchy) cruciferous vegetables, not everyone is going to realize that goal.  And the health benefits of this ingredient has been demonstrated by many scientific studies, in terms of its helping your body produce more of healthy metabolites of estrogen and less of the carcinogenic metabolites of estrogen.  A wonderful PLUS for this ingredient is that it helps reduce menopausal hot flashes as well.  For women who have hypothyroidism, it is a special boon, since these women must avoid raw cruciferous vegetables which can act to stimulate goiters.
