Q: After almost a month of taking 6 capsules of Royal Maca every day I have finally started my period. I am irregular and this is the first period I have had in three months after going off birth control pills. My question is should I continue taking 6 capsules during my cycle and after or go down to three capsules right away?
A: Normally, a young woman with a regular menstrual period would never need more than 2 capsules daily of Royal Maca for her PMS symptoms or for energy and a feeling of well being or to promote healthy thyroid function. However, women who have had their healthy reproductive function interrupted through taking birth control pills, especially for an extended period of time, might have trouble re-establishing a healthy menstrual cycle and 6 capsules a day for a 30 day period might be helpful in restoring menstruation. As soon as the period starts, it’s probably a good idea to cut back to 3 capsules daily, with the goal of eventually returning to 2 capsules daily. Of course, if your period fails to come on time, you can increase your dosage enough to establish a regular cycle.
