Over the years women customers have from time to time mentioned to me that since they started taking Royal Maca their
vaginal discharge had cleared up. I thought this was wonderful and interesting but had no way of understanding this scientifically, as there was nothing in the scientific literature to suggest this kind of effect.
But that’s all changed now that plant scientists have begun to study the isothiocynates in the Maca Root. Maca roots, like other plants in the Lepidum genus, have a significant amount of glucosinolates which slowly – and partially – convert to isothiocyanates when the roots are slowly dried in the sun over a period of six to eight weeks, in the traditional way.
Now it’s been discovered that another plant in the Lepidium genus, Lepidium bonariense, contains one of the same isothiocyanates as the Maca Root. Research on this isothiocyanate, called p-Methoxybenzylisothiocyanate, derived from the Lepidium bonariense plant, was isolated and found to be responsible for the plant’s antimicrobial and STD (sexually transmitted disease) activity. The p-methoxybenzylisothiocyanate derived from Lepidum bonariense was tested against Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Haemophilus ducreyi, and other micro-organisms. So, ladies, Royal Maca® which has a high percentage of isothiocyanates, since it is always sun-dried, might become your favorite food for helping to maintain a healthy vaginal ecology.
